Welcome to my new portfolio site

Design Drupal Responsive

11/02/2020

This blogpost is the first one added to the portfolio site you are visiting right now, so what better subject than the site itself and how it came about? Let me briefly introduce you to the thought process which resulted in this site, the technologies used and the lessons learned.

As I am writing this, the site you are looking at is brand new. I liked my previous portfolio site, in fact I liked it so much I included it in the Work section, so you can still check it out! However, it lacked some functionality which I was looking for, like providing more information on the projects I am sharing with you, and a place to occasionally drop a blog post when I want to share my thoughts. So I produced this new site.

As usual, I started off by making a design in Photoshop. I really like darker themes, but never got around to making one myself, so I used one this time around. I built the site in Drupal 8. Over the last years I have become quite fluent in making Drupal 8 sites, however all of those were made for employers, so I could not share the results myself. This was a nice opportunity to produce a Drupal 8 site in my own time, and it was the perfect platform for this project anyway, so that worked out quite nicely.

Apart from Drupal 8, I used my standard setup to produce the site. This is incorporated in my base theme, which works fine when working in Drupal. It includes an automation setup in Gulp. I used Sass as CSS preprocessor, and jQuery as Javascript library. I paid extra attention to image optimization in the latter stages of creating this site. Making sure the design is fully responsive and therefore produces a nice result on any screen is important to me, so of course that has been applied to this site as well.

In the Work section, I have included projects I have produced in the past which show some of my skills and learning curve. On each project's page, you can read about the overall setup of the project andĀ either what I learned from it or what I practiced while building it. Some of these projects are a few years old and therefore don't necessarily reflect how I would set up a similar project now, but I believe they still showcase some useful features nonetheless. Have a look around, and send me a message through the contact section if you want to get in touch.
